Japanter

Get READY!  Japanther’s new album, Rock and Roll Ice Cream, comes out next week.  Japanther has been one of my favorite freak out art party dance bands since I first saw them at 2am on a Thursday morning in an unheated Greenpoint, Brooklyn loft in the Fall of 2008.  Coming from a DIY mindset, they employ a bass guitar, drums, telephones for mics, and actual tape loops for backup instruments.  Their blend of pop punk stirred with a heavy dose of “fuck you we just want to have fun” instantly brings to mind all kinds of radical thoughts about not wanting to work, pay your bills, etc.  Japanther’s live shows are remarkable in that their honesty physicalizes into some kind of massive freakout, releasing all tension, stress, and worries about the mundane world.
